Hi! My name is Andrea Raney (formerly Rollins)... and BlackDraft Miniatures began in 1997 with not miniature horses but, of all things, a black draft horse. It was my sole desire to expand my driving abilities to include driving multiple horses, and my serendipitous journey eventually led to the discovery of the American Miniature horse.
In 1999, I purchased a Percheron named Rick, pictured above, who stood 18.1 hands and was as sweet as can be. I set out to find a matching team mate... and thought it would be fun to raise a baby from scratch. Just when I was about to purchase a yearling Percheron colt, I noticed someone in my neighborhood driving a tiny horse... and the little stallion was pulling two adults. I was intrigued... and thought long and hard about this discovery. I could probably feed, house, and farrier a whole six-up of miniatures for the cost to upkeep a team of two drafts. I was hooked! I decided not to buy the yearling Percheron colt and set out to find some matching black Miniatures... and my life with horses hasn't been the same.
When I'm not playing with my horses, I am either at work or school. I am pursuing a BFA in Illustration because art is one of my main obsessions besides horses. I work at Disneyland... with horses, of course! I do love my job... what could be better than horses AND Disneyland at the same time?
Here I am below in 2004 driving a sweet Percheron named "Grey Rex." I no longer drive the Streetcars because I love working in the barn!

I married my husband, Philip Raney, on 7-7-07 :
